The Wessex Deanery is responsible for the management of postgraduate medical and dental education across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset, South Wiltshire and the States of Jersey see map. Our trainees work in 15 NHS Trusts and in over 140 GP practices throughout this area.
The Deanery is part of NHS Education South Central (NESC), part of South Central SHA . Wessex Deanery is renowned for its excellent training and the support it provides for both its trainees and its educators in the field. We have an formal agreement with NHS South West for those training programmes falling within their geographic patch (namely Dorset and South Wiltshire). The Deanery has strong links with the University of Southampton School of Medicine, the University of Winchester, Portsmouth and Bournemouth Universities as well as with the hospitals and GP practices within its patch. We also work closely with Oxford Deanery, our sister deanery within NESC and other deaneries nationally.
We are based at Otterbourne, near Winchester.
